  His father, Szmuel, was a violinist and his mother a piano teacher, and

  prodigy, he appeared in concerts in Poland and abroad. He studied in Berlin
  and graduated its music academy. During the war he was in Warsaw. He was
  hiding and was saved. He presently lives in Poland. Wladyslaw Szpilman has a
  prominent position in the world of music in Poland and he is among the
